HISTORY:

Venni Karumbeswarar Temple is a Hindu temple located at Koilvenni in Tiruvarur district, Tamil NaduIndia. The temple is dedicated to Shiva, as the moolavar presiding deity, in his manifestation as Karumbeswarar. His consort, Parvati, is known as Soundaranayagi. The historical name of the place is Tiruvenni

This Shivastalam is located in the vicinity of Aalankudi (Gurustalam) and Tiruppoovanur (Pushpavanam) near Needamangalam. This well laid out temple enshrines a  Shivalingam with  marks resembling those of the sugarcane. Legend has it that this shrine was discovered by Mucukunda Cholan associated with the Tiruvarur temple. Across from the temple is the Surya theertham.

SALIENT FEATURE:

·        The east facing temple has a south facing Ambal shrine and shrines to Ganesha, Murugan, Gjalakshmi and others.

·        The garbhagriha niches bear images of Narthana Ganapati, Dakshinamurthy, Lingodbhava and Durga.

BELIEF:

It is also believed that patients suffering from diabetes will be cured of the disease if they make an offering of sugar to the main deity at this temple."Karumbu" in Tamil means sugarcane and the main linga is in the form of a bunch of sugarcane stems tied together.

Realizing their wish, devotees offer sweet pudding as nivedhana to lord.

HOW TO REACH:

This sivasthalam is about 26 Kms from Thanjavur on the way to Needamangalam via Saliamangalam and Ammapettai. Immediately after Ammapettai, one has to get down at Koilvenni bus stop and take a branch road going towards north for about 2 Kms. to reach the temple.
