HISTORY:

This is a Shivastalam in the vicinity of Tirunellikka near Tiruvarur. This shrine is regarded as the 116th in the series of Tevara Stalams in the Chola Region south of the river Kaveri.

Legend has it that the Navagrahams and Lakshmi worshipped Shiva here. Shiva's shrine is located in front of Lakshmi's. The Shiva Ganga tank is located to the north of the temple.Asura Guru Sukracharyar is believed to have regained his eyesight after worshipping Shiva here.

SALIENT FEATURE:

ยท        Legend has it that after the great deluge that submerged the earth, this temple tank is the site where clear water collected, hence the name Tengur.
