HISTORY:

This Shivastalam is located 10 km east of Mannargudi. This shrine is regarded as the 112th in the series of Tevara Stalams in the Chola Region south of the river Kaveri.

Bhringi Munivar associated with the Ardhanareeswarar legend  is said to have assumed the form of a bee and worshipped Shiva (alone, ignoring Parvati) here, hence the name Vanduturai.  Ambal is also known as Satyhiyaya Seshi. 

SALIENT FEATURE:

·        This temple has a 3 tiered Rajagopuram.

·        There is a shrine to Bhikshatanar.

·        The niches around the garbhagriha are enshrined with images of Ganesha, Dakshinamurthy, Ardhanaareeswara, Bhrahma and Durga.

This paadal petra sthalam is situated 10 Kms from Mannargudi on the way to Tirutturaipoondi. One has to reach a village called Veeraakki on this road and then take a branch road for about 1 Km. to reach this sthalam.
