HISTORY:
Araneri
Achaleswarar Temple is a Hindu temple located
in the premises of Thyagaraja Temple in Tiruvarur of Tiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu, India. Historical name of this place is Arur Araneri. The
temple is dedicated to Shiva, as the moolavar presiding
deity, in his manifestation as Araneriyappar. His consort, Parvati, is
known as Vandarakuzhali.
The
Chola Queen Sembian Mahadevi rebuilt this temple of stone (10th century). This
west facing temple consists of a sanctum and an ardhamandapam.
Inscriptions from the period of Raja Raja Chola are found here. The niche
images here include those of Ardhanareeswarar, Durga, Bhikshatanar, Bhrama,
Lingodbhavar, Dakshinamurthy, Agastyar and Natarajar.

with water, when oil supply failed.
